December 3rd 2008 – Getting started with the Policy

It is the 3rd of December already and we only have 21 days left to get this finished and there is so much to do, even for us.  Our approach at Fleet Risk Consultants is to establish a comprehensive road risk policy as a start point to reducing risk.

This is based on the assumption that if we tell people what is expected, then there is a reasonable chance of them doing what we have asked.  Once the policy is in place we can then start to focus on the areas that need further work beyond that of simple information supply.

The key to all policies to get an individual within the organisation to take ownership of the policy to ensure that it is implemented consistently and that any issues raised by the staff are dealt with promptly.

Now as it was the Health & Safety Elf who raised this issue in the first place, quite rightly in my opinion (but I am biased) he will be the owner of the Road Risk Policy when it is written.  Due to the tight timescale to get this done in time for Christmas we have locked the Health & Safety Elf in a room with one of our consultants to get the policy written in double quick time.

The next job on our list whilst the policy is being done is to establish whether Santa is competent to drive the sleigh.  That is tomorrows job and we be the subject of the next installment.
