December 10th 2008 – Turning the North Pole Green?
The phrase ‘a little knowledge is a dangerous thing’ was never truer than today’s request from the Head Elf to look at the Green Transport Credentials of the North Pole’s transport operation. I suppose it didn’t help when I exclaimed ‘They are reindeer, how green do you need to be?’
So here I am trying to work out how to calculate the carbon footprint or hoof-print of a reindeer, Comet produces gases, but they are definitely not Carbon Dioxide. That is probably due to his diet of sugar products.
Overall the operation at the North Pole is very environmentally friendly, mainly due to a rather interesting magical power source that provides the lighting and heating here. Also using reindeer produces no carbon either and in the 10 days I have been here I have seen no vehicles that run on carbon fuels, so I can conclude that this operation is very environmentally friendly.
The only exception is Comet, but I guess we can forgive him his emissions.
