The trouble with drivers is………..
They are either ignorant of the laws or they are deliberately flouting them, either way these drivers could land you in court facing some very serious charges under Health and Safety Legislation and Corporate Manslaughter Legislation.
I have seen employees of some very large and reputable companies of the past couple of weeks doing some of what in my opinion are the stupidest things a driver can do behind the wheel. I have seen drivers using hand-held mobile phones, driving without wearing a seat-belt and speeding.
The biggest concern I have is mobile phones and it appears that the more expensive the car is, the more likely it will be that the driver will be using a hand-held mobile phone. This is completely illogical to me because if you can afford to spend £40,000 on a car then a £20.00 bluetooth kit seems a small price to pay.
The seat-belt issue is even more confusing to me. The law requires drivers to wear seat-belts and common sense tells you that you should be secured just in case of a collision. The really strange thing is that some lorry drivers do not wear their seat-belt in the lorry, but do wear their seat-belt in their car.
The problem for business owners and managers is that these foolish acts could lead to injuries and if you don’t have a proven, documented system to manage and prevent them happening, then you could be facing a Police investigation.
