That is the question that I get asked on a regular basis and it is an interesting question to consider.
When you say fleet to people they think of different things, some think of huge grey ships setting of to defend or attack, others think of huge lorries delivering goods and some think of Intergalactic Star Destroyers commanded by a man in black with a bad sinuous problem.
I however consider a collection of more than 3 vehicles as a fleet, more than that though my definition is not limited by the owner of the vehicles. Let me explain a little, if you run a solicitors practice you are unlikely to own any vehicles so you may consider yourself not to be running a ‘fleet’, but you do have people driving their own vehicles and travelling on behalf of the practice. This means that you are operating a fleet of vehicles and as such you have a number of responsibilities.
These can vary from document checking to ensuring the correct mileage fees are paid, but you are a fleet operator. Now I would suggest that as a ‘fleet operator’ you should be a member of a support organisation such as ACFO to ensure you know all you need to know. If this is not what you are looking for then you should at the very least check with a professional that your systems are up to standard, this consultation should not cost you anything.
