Facing what is really important
Yesterday, here in the UK it was Fathers Day and it got me thinking about how much I am loved by my daughter and how many other Fathers are loved by their children. Equally we love our children just as much.
This reminded me about why we, at Fleet Risk Consultants, do what we do each and every day. We work to ensure that everyone gets home to the people they love every night. This is the over-riding ethos of our company, but clearly we have a lot to do as drivers are still subjecting so many of their loved ones to the annual tradegy of 3,000 dead people in road crashes every year.
When I drive it is with the primary objective of ensuring that I get home to see my gorgeous daughter at the end of my day. I also consider the vehicles around in the same way. If we all drive like this we will reduce the road deaths by a massive amount.
So, what is more important than the people we love?
Perhaps we need to look in a different way? Do you love your boss more than your child? Will the customer you are trying sell your product to care if you are not there to read a bed-time story? Perhaps the meeting means more than the welcome you get at home?
So here is an idea for you, next time you are going to make that marginal overtake or answer that mobile phone ask yourself this –
IS IT REALLY THAT IMPORTANT COMPARED TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPECTING ME HOME TONIGHT?
The answer is probably going to be a resounding NO!
