You can always learn something new!
Yesterday I received a call from a contact of mine with a question about the insurance excess on his daughters vehicle. In essence his daughter had reversed her car into another vehicle causing minor damage to their car, but no damage to her car. She gave the other person her details and contacted her insurance company o give them the details of the incident.
The insurance company told he that as their was no damage to her vehicle she would not have to pay the £250 compulsory excess and the £250 voluntary excess either. Now my contact thought this seemed odd and called me for some advice.
Now every collision I get involved in usually entails substantial damage to all vehicles, so this was new territory for me, but I was in agreement that this sounded wrong. I then contacted my BNI colleague at Oakes Insurance who confirmed that this was correct.
As the young lady had not damaged her vehicle and only the third party vehicle required a repair, there was no excess to pay. She does have to notify any insurer of the collision, but at least the direct cost to her is not at the moment £500.
