As I covered yesterday a grey fleet is not a collection of grey cars, but the vehicle used by a business, but owned by the individual rather than the business.
One of the key challenges with grey fleet vehicles is getting past the perception that the vehicle is the responsibility of the business rather than the employee. Most businesses are blinkered to the risk and either think they are covered by their insurance or are aware of the risks, but are not sure how to deal with the problems it causes.
The first and biggest issue is that of driving licence validity, I have found businesses that either check the driving licence upon commencement of employment or not even then. Those that do check their licences are in the main only doing it every year rather than the advised every six months.
There are other areas to worry about, but we will cover them as the week progresses.
