More Mobile Phone Stupidity
I have noticed a developing trend amongst car drivers which is rather worrying for a number of reasons. The trend I have observed is that of jamming the mobile phone between the rim of the steering wheel and the centre boss, which can allow the phone to be visible to the driver whilst driving. They clearly think that this will allow them to get around the law as they would not be holding the phone, BUT and it is a huge but.
With the phone lodged in the steering wheel, right on top of the airbag, not only are they distracted whilst using the phone but when they do hit something, and they will. The airbag will be deployed and this will fire the mobile phone with explosive force. The direction that the phone will be fired is dependent on many things, but there is a good chance that the phone will be fired at you, the driver.
Here is a suggestion for you – TURN THE PHONE OFF!
You can stop every hour or so to check for messages, because being in full control of your vehicle is more important than any phone call you are likely to get. If you don’t believe me then please check out this short film from the Gwent Police, I think it makes the point.
