New Skoda Supurb Combi
Firstly I need to apologise for a lack of articles this week, I have a good excuse though.
I was privileged this week to be invited to the launch of the New Skoda Superb Combi at Lake Maggiore in Italy. This meant I got the opportunity to see, drive and experience the New Skoda Superb Combi before most other people.
I wont bore you with the details of the trip, apart from saying that it was in the company of a great group of people and we also got to drive the New Yeti as well.
The choice of location by Skoda was an act of pure genius, the routes for driving both Yeti and Superb Combi we a mix of steep twisty Italian roads, villages, towns and for Superb Combi as stretch of Motorway too.
I have to say that the New Skoda Superb Combi is internally HUGE, I am 6′ 3″ tall and I could sit in the rear behind the front passenger seat, with that seat as far back as it was physically able to go and still not touch the seat in front with my knees.
It has some great touches inside it and when you then realise it is competing in the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia Market sector you begin to understand that this is a special car. It is also packed full of safety features, as usual there are a huge number of three letter acronyms for Stability, Braking, Hill Assist and other things too.
Anyone who knows me, even remotely, will know that I do not place praise easily, if there are faults I am honest enough to mention them. The thing is I couldn’t find any during the 3 hours I spent with the car. The only issue I have is the bruises on my left hand knuckles, this is because we were driving left hand drive cars and as my car is right hand drive I kept going for the gear lever with my left hand and rapping my knuckles on the door. I got the hang of it after about 30 minutes, but they are still a little pink.
We all know about the badge issue surrounding Skoda, even Skoda recognise it, but if you know about cars and you are smart with your money, oh yes and looking for a great estate car or load lugger. I would be giving your local retailer a call to arrange a test drive when it arrives here in late February.
Oh yes, the best bit of the car? From a techie point of view I might suggest it is the boot lamp that double as a removable torch. It demonstrates the attention to detail from the design guys at Skoda.
