As a result of the downturn and a lack of orders for new vehicles, most car manufacturers ceased production at their factories to reduce their stock holdings.

We know that orders for new vehicles were down, but I had not considered the short term rental market that much until I was chatting to Laura Johnson, my local Travel Counsellor who was telling me that the rates for holiday hire cars had shot up recently.

She was telling me that the price had gone from £300 to almost £1,000 for a weeks hire on a reasonably standard vehicle. I can see why as there is a lack of vehicles being purchased even with the efforts being made by the governments around the world.

My advice on the topic is this, get someone like Laura to sort it for you as she can not only tell you where to go, but she can make sure you get the right vehicle once you get there.

I am on behalf of Fleet Risk Consultants a member of the Parkside Chapter of BNI in the Black Country and South Derbyshire region. Now for those of you who do not know what BNI is, I shall briefly explain.

BNI is a formalized networking group whose aim is to generate business opportunities for their members. The difference between BNI and other networking is that BNI has a formal agenda to the meetings which has been developed to maximise the understanding between the members that allows a large amount of trust to be nurtured.

In my chapter (Parkside) there are various business represented from a genius IT chap (AML Midlands Ltd) to a Utility Warehouse Distributor who is passionate about saving his clients money (Nathan Vowles), if you add into the mix a Travel Counsellor (Laura Johnson) and a Graphic Designer (Andy Peat Design) you can see that we have a powerful group. I shall mention the other members over the coming weeks, but needless to say if you have a need of a solution to a problem I am confident that there is a BNI member somewhere who can provide that solution.

To be a member of BNI you have to satisfy certain criteria which includes references from previous customers and an adherence to the policies and procedures developed over the years. That is why I have total confidence in my fellow members.

If you want more business for your company then you should really get along to your local BNI meeting and see what they do and if you are in the Nottingham/Derby region then you could always come and have lunch, yes LUNCH, with us at the Risley Park Public House at midday. We will make you most welcome.
